Job Description

The Accounting Specialist performs routine accounting activities such as payroll, general ledger posting, accounts payable and receivable functions and preparation of various accounting reports and financial statements. They should be familiar with standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures as well as posting journal entries. 

Responsibilities

  • Apply accounting principles to enter and review transactions for appropriate treatment 
  • Reconcile accounts and research discrepancies 
  • Prepare journal entries and bank reconciliations 
  • Review account balances for accuracy and reasonableness 
  • Complete all steps in a period close with appropriate documentation 
  • Follow prior period workpapers to determine level of work to be completed 
  • Process payroll and related payroll taxes, including Form 1099’s 
  • Prepare sales and other local taxes including commercial activities tax (CAT) filings 
  • Identify questions and communicate effectively to appropriate parties, including clients 
  • Answer questions from clients or team members on how to use Quickbooks desktop or Quickbooks online (QBO) 
  • Preparation of Prepared and Compiled Financial Statements 
  • Assisting clients with accounting, payroll and basic software issues
  • Processing of client’s payroll
  • Calculating bonus payments and appropriate deductions from bonus checks
  • Calculating and/or processing payroll tax deposits and payments, as required
  • Assisting tax/accounting and audit departments with training/providing annual adjusted client trial balance
  • Manage and prioritize workload to ensure that deadlines are met 
  • Embrace team environment and adapt processes to firm standards
  • Assisting principals with client billing
  • Identifying potential additional services to benefit current clients

  • QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online - preferred
  • Internal software abilities - Fixed Asset Solutions, Accounting CS, Caseware Working Papers and GoFileRoom 

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in accounting or comparable accounting and bookkeeping experience preferred 
  • 0-4 years in relevant position or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Basic accounting practices within a business environment preferred 
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with advanced skills in Word and Excel
