Position Summary

The Associate Director of Academic Support for Athletics serves as the primary academic contact for assigned teams. This is a meaningful relationship that extends from recruiting visit to graduation and beyond. The Associate Director will lead the continuing eligibility process and complete NCAA academic reports including APR and GSR.

The office has a direct reporting line to the Associate Provost of Academic Affairs and a dotted line to the Director of Athletics. The position is housed in the division of Academic Affairs. The division of Academic Affairs encompasses all of Elon's extensive academic programs as well as the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, faculty affairs and academic operations. Elon's academic programs include more than 70 undergraduate majors, nine graduate programs and a wide array of interdisciplinary programs and enriching intellectual and research opportunities. These programs are offered across six academic schools - namely the Jo Watts Williams School of Education, the Martha & Spencer Love School of Business, the School of Communications, the School of Health Sciences, the Elon University School of Law, and Elon College, the College of Arts & Sciences. Minimum Required Education and Experience

Master's Degree Required; 5 years of related experience

Preferred Education and Experience

At least five years of direct experience working with student-athletes in an academic setting is required; Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, student-athlete eligibility, and related functions is preferred; The ability to compile data and prepare, write, and review reports is required; Proficiency with computer applications, particularly Excel, is required; Demonstration of leadership ability is required

Job Duties

  • Facilitate weekly meetings to monitor and track academic progress, including class and study hall attendance, with all First Year and at-risk student athletes; Facilitate connections with campus resources including professors, learning assistance, disability resources, and SPDC; Assist and advise students each semester during the registration process, including winter term and summer, and incoming first year and transfer students
  • Monitor and review continuing eligibility of all assigned student-athletes; Continually monitor student degree audits, class schedules, and course requirements to keep student-athletes on track to graduate
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Director and coaching staff regarding specific issues with student-athletes
  • Meet with recruited student-athletes to provide a comprehensive review of the academic support program and its services; Evaluate transfer credit evaluations to determine the academic eligibility of incoming transfer recruits
  • Lead staff training and scheduling of continuing eligibility reviews; Work with compliance staff to ensure that all student-athletes are certified for competition; Complete all NCAA academic reports including APR and GSR submission
  • Contribute to the overall success of the unit while demonstrating a commitment to NCAA rules, compliance and adherence to NCAA regulations
